Open Borders Lobby: Are They Beginning to Lose?
By Peter Gadiel
If you’ve campaigned for any length of time against illegal immigration and for securing our borders, it’s dead certain you have a few experiences in common with everybody else on our side.
One is that the illegal alien lobby calls you a “racist,” a “supporter of the KKK” and a “fascist.” They will do this even if you are, for example, Hispanic, Asian, African, black, a white person married to someone of another race, or a combination of all of the above. Inevitably, the illegal alien lobby will call you “anti-immigrant” even if you, your parents, your spouse and all your in-laws are immigrants and you’ve adopted an orphan from
The people who speak these lies are invariably mouthpieces for: A) The group that (in Spanish) calls itself the “National Council of The Race” and which is itself – by definition - a racist organization; B) The Southern Poverty Law Center: an outfit which defines as “racist” as anyone opposed to illegal immigration. They define racism in this way so that SPLC can trumpet their claim that the
By the time you’ve been involved for a couple of years, you will also have learned that, just as America’s war against Osama bin Laden (the Foreign OBL) is a long-term effort with many setbacks before eventual victory, so also is the fight against the Open Borders Lobby (the Domestic OBL). You’ve learned that the Domestic OBL is just as dangerous, determined and fanatical as the Foreign OBL, and they will not be stopped easily from pursuing the goal they share: the destruction of the
For the foreseeable future, no single victory of ours will be the final one. To illustrate: although the U.S. Army removed Mullah Omar as lunatic-in-chief of Afghanistan in 2001, the Foreign OBL is still fighting, six years later, to reinstall him. We killed the Bush-Kennedy Comprehensive Amnesty bill in July, and now the Domestic OBL is bringing back part of it in Sen. Durbin’s “DREAM Act” with more amnesties to follow in an “Ag Jobs Bill.” Thus, as a campaigner for secure borders, you’ve found that you’re on an emotional rollercoaster that you may think will never end.
Yes, it’s a tough fight, and if you’re one of those who has been engaged in the battle for a while, you’ve had so many ups and downs. You’d also love to hear some confirmation that the overall trend is in our favor. Well, we of “9/11 Families for a Secure America” believe we can give you that confirmation, and our source is…the Domestic OBL itself, the illegal alien lobby.
For the uninitiated, some background information is necessary.
Members of “9/11 Families for a Secure America” first started attending rallies and hearings in state legislatures and in Congress in 2002. All of us were struck by the smugness, the confidence and the arrogance displayed by the open borders lobbyists. As we gained experience, we learned it was only natural that they’d act this way because a long string of victories had convinced them that history was on their side. They were certain it was only a matter of time until illegal aliens would get drivers licenses in all 50 states; would get in-state tuition and subsidized tuition loans at all taxpayer supported universities; that illegals would continue forever to get free health care at the expense of American citizens; that they could continually expand use voter fraud so that illegals could vote in more elections.
They were also certain that, thanks to the Old Media (Los Angeles Times, Gannett, CBS, etc), they would always be able to suppress news of the vast number of vicious crimes committed by illegal aliens and the horrible suffering borne by Americans.
9/11 FSA members who attended those early hearings couldn’t fail to notice the Domestic OBLs’ air of supreme confidence – just as we couldn’t fail to recognize their barely concealed hatred of us for daring to speak up for the victims of illegal immigration. Domestic OBLs believed their own propaganda, which informed them that illegals were “entitled” to all these rights and benefits and that victory, culminating in mass amnesty for 20 million lawbreakers would soon, and as a matter of right, be theirs. With their certainty of eventual victory, the illegal alien lobbyists generally refrained from engaging in violence, or open demonstrations of hatred and bitterness.
Well, the times they are a-changin’. Sure, arrogance and the sense of entitlement remain, but the confidence in ultimate victory has disappeared. The thin veneer of civilized behavior that concealed the true nature of the Domestic OBL has also been stripped away. These days, the Open Borders Lobby more and more frequently reveals the hatred for
For example, on July 28th, 500 supporters of secure borders gathered in Morristown, N.J. to support Mayor Donald Cresitello, the first official in that state to apply to the federal government to permit city police to enforce immigration law (under what is known as “Section 287g”). The open borders mob that showed up to protest provided a perfect example of what happens when extremists sense that they are headed for defeat: they become violent, they intimidate, and they attempt to extinguish the free speech rights of secure borders activists. Because the illegal alien lobby had threatened violence, over 100 state, county, and city police on foot and 40 in full riot gear were required to form a protective ring around the Mayor’s supporters. Additional officers were on horseback and in patrol cars, a helicopter and a mobile command center.
9/11 FSA board members Ed Kowalski, Dan Smeriglio and I, among others, spoke in support of Mayor Cresitello. Across the street was an open borders mob consisting of members of Code Pink, the National Organization for Women (NOW), and two local Catholic churches (St. Margaret’s and St Elizabeth’s). Many were shouting communist slogans and waving red flags. Several of the open borders mob attacked, broke through the police cordon and attempted to destroy our sound equipment and silence us. Though they failed in that, they had their own sound system and throughout our meeting the mob tried to drown us out by screaming slogans such as “Workers of the world unite.” By the time it was all over, five of them had been arrested for violent assaults.
The presence of NOW members among the Domestic OBL crowd was especially interesting. Ed Kowalski explained how local enforcement of immigration law would have saved the life of his 17- year-old niece, Elizabeth Butler. In 2005,
I witnessed more proof of the Open Borders Lobby’s increasing desperation at an August 27th meeting in
The dramatic evidence of Domestic OBL desperation was again evidenced by their uncontrolled anger. Particularly enjoyable was the utter loss of self-control by a local immigration lawyer/profiteer named Richard Kessler, who actually screamed at the panel of legislators and, after the hearing, screamed at me. While raving at me, Mr. Kessler said I had no business attending a meeting in
Hmm…if I, an American citizen, don’t have the right to attend a public meeting to which I had been invited, what does that suggest about the illegals from whom Kessler profits?
The list of examples of such behavior is growing satisfyingly larger. Recall Ted Kennedy’s tantrum after defeat of his and Bush’s Comprehensive Amnesty. (That was when he accused secure borders activists of advocating creation of a Gestapo.) And then there were the friends of convicted felon and ID thief, the recently deported Elvira Arellano. These worthies rioted right in the halls of one of the House of Representatives office buildings, temporarily overwhelming Capitol Police.
Yes, the Open Borders, the Domestic OBL, is sending clear messages that they know they’ve lost their moment; they know that Americans have awakened and that their movement has peaked and will decline. And they’ve got plenty of reason to be worried: besides the defeat of the Bush-Kennedy Comprehensive Amnesty bill, there have been a string of statewide defeats for them in Oklahoma, Arizona, Missouri, Colorado, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee and elsewhere, where legislation or executive action has been implemented which encourages illegals to self-deport.
So, you’ve been depressed because it pains you to be called a racist. It hurts when they call you anti-immigrant, fascist, whatever. You know that for a long time you will have to keep fighting a very persistent enemy in order to protect your country from the invasion that the Clinton-Bush administration has encouraged. You know that whatever battles you’ve helped win, there’s always a Kennedy, a Durbin, Obama, McCain, Lugar or Bush who’ll insist on weakening our national security.
As a result, you need to hear good news. You need to hear that, even if victory is not yet in hand that it soon will be. Well, be of good cheer. The Domestic OBL is scared: scared and beginning to act out of desperation.
Listen to their message. Understand it; enjoy it. Act on it. Keep fighting.
